LinCity, Society Simulation Gaming

Author // Dan

Aside from playing far to much Combat Arms this weekend, I also managed to find time for a game I've been meaning to play for a couple of weeks now. This game was amusing and delivers a superior series of systems compared to any game in the same league as it. The sound and graphic quality are also very professional, considering this game didn't cost me, nor will it cost you, a dime.

LinCity is a modern, open source, simulation game similar to the old Sim City games that Maxis released in the 1990s. This game is just what I was looking for. I use to play the Sim games all the time. I still manage to find time for SimFarm, but that's a different story for another day. In LinCity, you will find everything for your city-simulation needs. Start off small with basic needs such as residential housing, iron mining (industry), and a local market place (commerical). In time your town will propser and grow into a Metropolis. This game includes many micromanagement systems which makes it more enjoyable, a bit more realistic, and enhances replay value (there are so many routes to take and so many mistakes to make, you'll never have two LinCities turn out the same way!)

LinCity has merged many concepts that Maxis tried to include on their collection of simulator games. Similar to Sim Tower, LinCity includes a system of recycling. There are energy options inthis game, to create a renewable energy system. Your citizens will demand better tax rates and a strong economic plan for the city.

Overall I'm very happy with this game and I will continue to play it, as it's a great free game that can be turned on and off at will, there is no time dedication to it since you can save at any point. On that note, I want to say that be sure to save often, I did experience some crashing with my longer gaming sessions, but it may have been on my end (my computer's been abused lately with installing, uninstalling, server backups, etc...) If you are interested in checking it out, the game can be found here. The download may take a few minutes, but for any Sim City fan, this game is a must have (or at the very least, a must try!)
