7 Obscure Gaming Accessories
It's time for part 3 of this on-going series here at Old School Apps. Each entry, I try to bring you some crazy gaming items that never quite hit home (literally). Most of these items have slipped through the eyes retailers and consumers. Was it because they were unpopular, unofficial, or under estimated in awesomness? At this point they are simpley relics of the past which demostrate innovations and ambitions of their creators, even if the general public didn't appreciate it at the time. We'll still take a few minutes to take note of these awesome inventions, because that's what we do here.
Ditech Diagnostic Game Boy Kit

Game Boy Hunter 64

The Game Boy Hunter 64 is a great little piece of hardware for the Nintendo 64. Similiar to the Super Game Boy, this device lets you play your favorite Game Boy games on your Nintendo 64. It's been reported to have issues with bringing the Game Boy game sounds onto your TV though, many people complained of horrible noises emitting from their speakers.
Hyper Boy

The Hyper Boy is a creation of Konami. It essentially turns your Game Boy into a mini-arcade cabinet. Very cool idea that apparently didn't get far, even though devices like the iCade (an iPad accessory to make your Tablet more arcade-like.) Like many old Game Boy add-ons, this device provided a screen-magnifer, light, and speaker enhancement. On top of that, it provides a nice dock for your desk or table, along with a rock solid controler setup.
Nintendo DS Telescope

The Nintendo DS Telescope seems like a pretty cool way to take advantage of the computing capabilities of the DSi. You can even find it cheap online now! This device is pretty cool because it doesn't require an additional power source like some add-ons do. The lens is equiped with a much nicer zoom compared to the original DSi camera zoom.
Where In Time Is Carmen San Diego

Where In Time Is Carmen San Diego is an excellent game on any platform, that's not what makes this version special. This one is neat because it comes with it's own encyclopedia and over-sized game box. I never remember seeing this game's box growing up, despite playing and owning the actual game cartridge, maybe it came in two variations, who knows. Regardless, I managed to pick up a copy of this game, complete in box, at a local game shop.
Super Nintendo Programmable Controller

This nifty controller for Super Nintendo allowed you to program custom settings. Create your own turbo or slow-motion controls. I'm not sure how practical this really was considering all the other options out there, but it certainly let gamers "design" the controller button layout, just incase you didn't like the way most SNES controllers functioned.
Game Boy Sewing Machine

The Game Boy really was an amazing device. It's been capable of being a pocket sonar device for fishing, taking and editing pictures, printing pictures, and now... it's a sewing machine!
