Written by Sean
Tuesday    August 11, 2009 - 12:00

Final Fantasy NintendoWelcome to Volume 1 of "Then and Now" here at Old School Apps. We will be taking a look back at the Final Fantasy Series from back in the day. Final Fantasy is a rich series full of many titles, spin-offs, movies and manga. If you are an avid RPG gamer such as myself then chances are you have some good memories from one, if not all, of the Final Fantasy games. So without further ado lets take a look back at the first 3 titles in the series, the games for the NES that planted the Final Fantasy seeds.

Madden NFL 10
Written by Dan
Monday    August 10, 2009 - 8:00

Madden '10 comes out on Friday the 14th this month, have you pre-ordered your copy yet? I sure haven't, but after looking at it, I may have to. I was never a big Sports game fan (besides Blades of Steel and Little League Baseball for NES), but after seeing a few game a few years back and now this years releases, the idea of playing a normally strenuous activity from the comfort of my home seems like a nice novelty... maybe I'm a late bloomer in these types of games? This game will be available on all the major consoles including the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii, Sony PSP, Nintendo DS, and yes, even the Playstation 2!

Madden 2010 Video Game

The presale copy has already stunned it's creators as it's still got a few days to go and they've already beaten previous years by a margin. This game is going to be hot and I'm sure you'll be able to find plenty of people to play with, all Madden games are popular and overplayed for years to follow. If you're a Football fan and also a gamer, you'll probably see an advertisement for the new Madden 10 at this weeks game between the Steelers and the Cardinals on Thursday.

What's New on Old School Apps Vol 9

Few of you may be asking yourself, "where have the text games gone?!" - well the answer to this in short, is they've gone to a better place. I've removed the category called "Text Based" games and merged them into their proper place. Most of them are located in the Adventure Game list now. You can always use our search feature to find a game title that's been moved or missing, but it's rare for us to reorganize/recategorize our games.

This week I put Sean hard to work to bring you an entire new section to our site. The Online Arcade, or Java Arcade, has been implemented and is ready for use. Leave your quarters at home! We now have around 70 games available to be played directly from our website at the Online Arcade. Check it out. You can even save your game's status and come back at a later time to continue your game. This can even be done from several computers, so if you like to "play on the go" then this is what you're looking for! (More on this in the FAQ section of our site). Please note that these games cannot and will not be downloadable from our site. We can't distribute them legally but we can allow temporary use of them. We will continue to add games to this section on a weekly basis, so if a title is missing, check back from time to time to see if we have it. You can also request a title by contacting us and we'll see if we're able to get a copy.

The following games have been reviewed this week:

In the upcoming weeks we'll be adding new community features including a Forum/message board, community activities & games, and our first Give-away Contest, keep your eyes peeled for that.

Old School Apps is an abandonware apps site which offers free game downloads and old apps dating back to the MS-DOS days.

Our abandonware games collection is one of the most complete archives on the Internet. We offer game downloads from the most popular genres available: adventure games, action games, board games, education games, puzzle games, racing games, roleplaying games, simulation games, sports games, strategy games, and text based games. We've recently added an online arcade which is filled with over a hundred classic nintendo games that you can play directly from your browser. These online nintendo games use Java and vNES to emulate old games without the hassle of having to download and install third-party software.
